Christina Welch teaches voice, guitar, flute, beginning piano, Children’s Music Academy, and Kindermusik with Harris Academy for the Arts. She received her bachelor’s in Music Education and a K-12 teaching endorsement from Doane College – Crete in 2007. In summer 2015, she completed a Master in Music Education through the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Having invaluable classroom and small group/ensemble experience as a 5th-8th grade vocal music instructor for Omaha Public Schools, as well as serving as a substitute teacher for Lincoln Public Schools and Tri-County Schools in DeWitt, NE, Christina brings a variety of musical talents to Harris Academy of the Arts.
Raised in a musical family, Christina’s mother taught elementary school, often incorporating music in her teaching with the flute and singing. Additionally, her father played bass clarinet. Christina discovered a passion for singing at the age of six and has been involved in private lessons, choirs, and musicals ever since. Upon adding flute to her early training, she found both the flute and voice to be beneficially compatible in regard to the necessary breath control required of both instruments. While in high school, Christina further branched out in her musical skills to piano, guitar, musical theatre and composition.
Christina strives for completeness as an individual as well as a musician. These expectations carry through to her students as well, as she guides and fosters them through self-discovery and self-improvement, while learning to analyze, break down, and assess their own music and that of others. Her approach allows the student to actively play, predict, and create their own interpretations of a musical piece or own composition.
In her free time, Christina enjoys spending time with family. She and her husband, and their two dogs, reside in Lincoln. She also continues to compose music and find new musical inspirations to share with those around her.
