Jeff Kuhl has participated in more than 150 professional theatre productions throughout the United States, with more than 25 years of professional performance experience. Since joining Harris Academy of the Arts in 2009, Jeff instructs voice, piano, theatre, and coaches varied talents (voice, theatre, choreography) with many young Miss America hopefuls. With years of invaluable experience in a variety of performances and roles, Jeff brings a reality of the performing world that lies outside of Lincoln. Jeff’s achievements are a rare find in Lincoln, and the diversity of his resume brings a combination of talent, skill and passion to his instruction of each student.
After receiving his Bachelor of Music in Education for kindergarten through secondary education from Hastings College, Jeff performed in Omaha before attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a graduate student. As a graduate teacher for Opera Music Theatre, he obtained a dual Masters of Music in Opera and Musical Theatre Performance. After two years as a musical director, he moved to Chicago.
Jeff has won Chicago’s Tony Award for Best Supporting Performance in a Musical and the coveted Chicago Critic’s After Dark Award. He has performed in more than 50 Broadway musicals on many of Chicago’s best-known stages. He is a charter member and lead performer with the Emmy Award-winning, “Classical Kids,” a live concert stage production re-living the extraordinary lives of some of the most famous composers. He has received multiple awards, including The Margaret Ann Keegan Award for Excellence in Arts Education, Arts United’s Artist of the Year, and the Anthony Award. He is a member of Actors Equity Association and The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
