Jentry began playing the violin at the age of three, and she has since developed 26 years of experience with the Suzuki Approach. She has been with Harris since March 2009, teaching violin, viola, sting ensembles, Kindermusik and Children’s Music Academy. Jentry’s violin instruction with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her continued enthusiasm has led to the recent growth of our “Young at Heart” lessons at Harris. Jentry continues to improve her teaching skills through ongoing education, a value she brings to Harris Academy of the Arts.
Jentry graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, with an emphasis in Orchestra and Elementary Music Education, from Utah State University. Jentry was a faculty teacher in the Utah State University String Academy, and has completed five levels of Suzuki Teacher training. She has completed her master’s degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Early Childhood Development and Education. Jentry is a trained Orff-Schulwerk instructor, and a member of Lincoln Music Teachers Association, Nebraska Music Teachers Association and the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
Jentry enjoys cooking, reading, and watching Masterpiece Theatre. She lives in Lincoln with her husband, Scott, who is working toward his Ph.D in Behavioral Neuropharmacology, their daughter, Penelope (Penny), and two cats, Gimli and Pippin.
Jentry is great! Because of her, my life is filled with music and is so much richer than before! — Nelia Hense
Jentry is always so positive and helps make each lesson exciting. Hanna loves coming to lessons and seeing Jentry! And of course, we love listening to Jentry play the violin. Truly talented!
Jentry is fabulous! Her love for music shows in what she does. Evan responds well to her and enjoys his time with her. We have nothing but good to say about Jentry and Harris. Thanks for all you do! — Gina DeBoer
We have worked with Jentry for over 2 years now and are so grateful that she is our instructor. Reese has grown so much in her ability to play the violin, and Jentry consistently and positively encourages that growth, while keeping expectations high. We absolutely love her and recommend her to anyone we can! — Jennifer Ford
Miss Jentry is an amazing teacher. Clara flourishes under her guidance. She makes it fun and challenging. It’s always sad to see how fast the time goes…I wish the clock would move a bit slower because each lesson is full and so much fun. Miss Jentry also knows how to back off and take things slower and easier when needed. Clara has gotten overwhelmed a couple of times and needed a breather. Miss Jentry took that class period to slow the tempo, talk and just break down the song and work on the hard parts. It took a lot of stress off of Clara. — Anne Johnson
Jentry Barrett is an exceptional teacher. Our time together is not only about music — though the music learning is very productive — but also about life skills that serve a person well, especially when understanding them early. Jentry is a positive and integral part of my child’s growth and potential success: to be a good, capable and happy person — who also enjoys a love of music and an appreciation for hard work that pays off. Some at Harris say my child has turned a corner to greater competence, and I think that happened when she began to comprehend and internalize the messages Jentry has been conveying through all our years of lesson. I am grateful for Jentry’s presence in our lives.
