Age to Start
As with woodwinds, the proper age to start a child on a brass instrument is dependent primarily on his or her physical readiness. We always recommend that a student consider piano lessons prior to initiating a brass or woodwind instrument to acquire the basic foundation of rhythms, note reading and symbol identification. Playing brass instruments requires physical exertion and lung power, along with the ability to handle the instrument. Beginning lessons around the age of 10 years is recommended.
